TITLE
Approve Surplus Classification for Certain Tangible Personal Property and Removal from MCSD Inventory
BACKGROUND
Chapter 274, Florida Statutes gives the School Board discretion to classify as surplus any tangible property that is obsolete, no longer necessary for the educational programs of the District, or for which continued use would be uneconomical or inefficient. In accordance with District Policy, items classified as surplus that are in fair and workable condition are offered for sale at auction, or donation to other government agencies, charter schools and local non-profit organizations. Those items deemed to be in poor condition, or otherwise without commercial value, are disposed of in the most economic means available. We are requesting approval at this time to classify the items on this list as surplus, so said items may be removed from MCSD inventory by sale, donation or other economic means.
ITEMS WITH ORIGINAL PURCHASE PRICE UNDER $5,000
Specific Notes: Due to the completion of construction at Sugarloaf School, as well as the imminent renovation of the high school media centers, excess furniture has accumulated at several schools. Excess furniture was advertised to other District schools. The furniture items on this list reflect the furniture not already repurposed within the Monroe County School District. Some of the furniture items on this list have been requested for donation to charter schools and other local non-profit organizations, but must first be classified as surplus by the Board before those items can be transferred.
