BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Key West Collegiate Academy is requesting that the proposed amendment to the charter agreement entered into between the School Board of Monroe County, Florida and Key West Independent Education, Inc. be altered by either appendices or further amendment to address the issues described in the amendment. These requests are made in part due to inconsistencies between the proposed amendment and the conditions found in the original charter agreement, and in part due to omissions in the amendment that leave many elements unclear.
District school boards have been receiving increased scrutiny related to the lack of oversight of charter schools and given the recent “rebranding” of Key West Collegiate School, the School Board is within its rights as sponsor to request the information below.
